Long Time No Update

I'm going to live forever or die trying.

--Spider Robinson

Quite a lot has happened in my absence. I regret not having the time or energy to keep this little blog updated over the last month or so. Here's the basic play-by-play of where I've been. Is it any wonder that I'm currently exhausted and fighting a nasty bug?

The first week of June we visited the Big Apple. Walked more blocks than I care to remember in the pouring rain, saw Central Park, the World Trade Center site, the Empire State Building and attended "Stomp" off Broadway. We feasted on hotdogs at Gray's Papaya, and survived a bike-taxi ride that would rival Mr. Toad's. After our adventure in the city, we took a train upstate to visit our friends who moved there last summer. We spent two AWESOME days with them and their adorable little kiddo.

From New York we rented a car and drove 3 hours to Vermont. I worked in Vermont for 2 days while Brad chilled in the hotel. I think the novelty of having so many TV channels met with his approval seeing as how we only have 2 channels at home. We learned that Vermont is not the place for authentic Chinese food or Mexican food. At least they have Ben&Jerry's. Yum!

After Vermont we drove to New Hampshire (another 4 hour drive) to catch a plan back to CA. My folks picked us up at the airport and took us out to dinner for some decent Mexican food. Mmmmmmm. The East coast was beautiful but they are a bit lacking in some of their cuisine.

I was home for a grand total of 4 days when I had to get on another plane. Destination: Salt Lake City. I must say, that's not a place I'm inclined to revisit. The altitude knocked me for a loop, and it was such a ho-hum city compared to where I had been the week before. Downtown had some interesting buildings--the new library was quite lovely, it reminded me a bit of the library in the movie "City of Angels". The biggest thing I noticed about SLC was that there was nary a minority to be seen. For someone who has grown accostomed to life in San Diego, that was a culture shock, to say the least.

By the time I was on my flight home from Utah I was already feeling quite crummy. Sore throat, aching, slightly feverish, etc. The extreme turbulence for the duration of the flight didn't help matters. With all the enclosed spaces and compromised sanitation, I managed to pick up a bug. I don't know if I got it back in NY or if I got it in Utah. Either way, it has taken me nearly a week to be able to do anything other than sleep.

On top of all the travel stress, there's some exciting stress in our lives as well. We bought a townhouse near downtown, and are planning to move next month. It hardly seems real. I think this is the most excited I've been about anything since Brad and I got engaged. :) I'll keep y'all posted on how things are going.

Until later (and don't hate me if it's MUCH later) I'm outta here.
